One of the biggest surprises during my cruise on Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas wasn't the size of the ship—it was the food.

If I had to choose just one complimentary restaurant to recommend, it would be AquaDome Market.

Unlike a traditional buffet, AquaDome Market is Royal Caribbean's first food hall. It features several made-to-order food stations, so you can mix and match different cuisines in one meal.

Some favorites include:

  • Fresh Mediterranean bowls from Feta

  • Sweet made-to-order crêpes from Crème de la Crêpe

  • Gourmet macaroni and cheese from Mac's

  • Fresh sandwiches and salads

Everything is included in your cruise fare, and the quality feels a step above what you'd expect from a buffet.

Best Grab-and-Go: Pearl Café

Pearl Café quickly became one of my favorite places onboard.

Open around the clock, it's perfect when you need:

  • Breakfast before an excursion

  • A late-night snack

Instead of waiting in buffet lines, you can grab fresh sandwiches, salads, pastries, and desserts whenever you're hungry. It's one of the newest complimentary dining concepts Royal Caribbean has introduced.

Sometimes, simple is best.

Sorrento's serves fresh pizza by the slice throughout the day and into the late evening, making it one of the most popular complimentary spots onboard.

Whether you're craving classic pepperoni, cheese, or one of the rotating specialty flavors, it's hard to beat after a long day in the sun—or after an evening show.

Best Poolside Food: Basecamp

Located beside Thrill Island, Basecamp is easy to overlook—but you shouldn't.

This quick-service restaurant serves some of the best casual food on the ship, including:

  • Smash burgers

  • Chicken tenders

  • Mozzarella sticks

  • Soft pretzels

  • Tater tots

  • Fresh cookies

It's the perfect stop between water slides or while relaxing by the pool.

Best Buffet: Windjammer Marketplace

The Windjammer is still the largest buffet onboard, and it's much more than burgers and fries.

You'll find:

If you're planning to splurge on one specialty restaurant, I'd recommend Chops Grille.

Known for its premium steaks, seafood, and elevated service, it's a favorite among Royal Caribbean guests and a great choice for a birthday, anniversary, or date night. Signature menu items include filet mignon, ribeye, shrimp cocktail, and rich desserts.

Best Italian: Giovanni's Italian Kitchen

Giovanni's serves classic Italian comfort food with beautiful ocean views.

Popular dishes include:

  • Chicken Parmesan

If you're celebrating something special, this is another excellent specialty dining choice.

Best Japanese Food: Izumi

Sushi lovers won't want to miss Izumi.

Don't Be Afraid to Try Something New

One of the best things about cruising is the opportunity to try foods you might never order at home.

If something sounds interesting:

Order it.

If you don't love it, simply try something else.

Since most restaurants are included, it's the perfect opportunity to be adventurous without worrying about paying for every dish.

My Biggest Food Tip for Icon of the Seas

Don't eat every meal at the Windjammer.

While the buffet is excellent, many of Icon's best food experiences are scattered throughout the ship. Spend time exploring different neighborhoods and restaurants—you'll discover new favorites along the way.

By the end of my cruise, I realized some of my favorite meals came from the smaller complimentary restaurants I almost skipped.

Final Thoughts

Icon of the Seas has some of the best dining options I've experienced on a cruise ship. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite at Pearl Café, enjoying a fresh Mediterranean bowl at AquaDome Market, or celebrating with a steak dinner at Chops Grille, there's something for every taste and budget.
